The most common adverse effects of Crestor are similar to those seen with statins, such as an increase in heart attack, stroke, and kidney function tests. However, the difference is less significant with statins, with the exception of a slight increase in liver function test readings.

In addition, patients with rare genetic conditions such as the rare inherited muscle weakness that is not well known to affect cholesterol or the rare rare inherited low-density lipoprotein (LDL) that is the more prevalent form of high cholesterol or LDL, also have a reduced risk of developing high cholesterol and LDL levels.

While the Crestor side effects listed above are generally mild, you should be aware that the side effects of Crestor, such as muscle pain, weakness, and headache, can be serious and even life threatening.

What is Crestor?

Crestor is a prescription medication that is used to treat high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. It lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while lowering HDL cholesterol. It may also increase the risk of developing a type of stroke called “fibrosingeal disease.”

Crestor belongs to a group of medications called statins. These medications work by lowering the amount of cholesterol in your blood. Lowering your cholesterol lowers your risk of developing fibrinopancreatic disorders (FIDs) or any other health issues that are associated with high cholesterol, such as atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and other problems with your blood vessels. Lowering your cholesterol lowers your risk of developing a type of heart disease called “cholesterol-related heart disease” or “CHEERS.”

How does Crestor work?

Crestor lowers your cholesterol and triglycerides by helping to raise your HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) and lowering your LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol). It does this by blocking the enzyme that your body produces cholesterol in your body. LDL cholesterol is made up of about 30% of the total cholesterol in your body. Crestor lowers your LDL cholesterol by lowering your HDL cholesterol, while raising your HDL cholesterol and lowering your LDL cholesterol.

It should be noted that Crestor does not protect against all forms of cholesterol. Crestor works against some forms of cholesterol, such as plaque in the arteries (hardening of the arteries), and fatty deposits in the blood vessels (swelling in the arteries).
